Homegrown Food 101 – Hands On Gardening Course
Do you want to learn to grow your own backyard food?
From starting your own seeds indoors to putting your garden to bed in the fall, I will walk you through the entire garden season. I will share what has and has not worked for me in my 18 years of food gardening in Juneau. You will gain hands-on experience, have support to help with problems and questions, and have fun in a relaxed, small group setting.
This course consists of 14 two-hours classes, each with its own theme.
Soon you will be enjoying some of your own homegrown food right from your backyard!
What: Topics covered include: seed starting, choosing your site, garden planning, building your garden from scratch, what, when and how to plant, watering, troubleshooting, soil building, making compost, when and how to harvest, preserve your harvest, saving seeds and getting ready for winter.
When: Classes are held every other week from April through September. Friday 3pm to 5pm or Sunday 2pm to 4pm.
Where: Most classes will be held at my home and backyard garden at Tee Harbor, but we will also go on field trips to other participant’s gardens.
How Much: $250 including the basic materials you will need to begin your garden…seeds, trays for starts, starts, and more.
